The Mountain Lakes of West Virginia
Close to the pottery shop is
Summersville Dam holding back the clear blue
water of the Gauley River to create Summersville Lake. This lake is the largest in WV
and it offers boating, fishing, camping, scuba diving, rafting, kayaking,
trout fishing, and much more. Below the dam hydro power is harvested and the rivers true power is revealed
in a raging torrent of pure whitewater delight. The Upper Gauley is the most
refreshing and intense whitewater river around.
Mount Lookout was once a civil war overlook on the confluence
of the Meadow River and Gauley River. On the other side of the river you can visit
Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park a civil war battle ground with a
great view of the Gauley River and lots of hiking to secluded river spots, don't
forget your camera.
Fayetteville is home to the
New River Gorge Bridge. The New River carves through an ancient
canyon rich in history. The high volume whitewater
has cut away the mountains revealing hidden cliffs as old as time. The New River is the second oldest river in the world.
Be sure to visit the New River Gorge National River Visitors Center for
grand view of the New River and its really big bridge, The New River
Gorge Bridge.
The Great Outdoors
There are so many things to enjoy in the mountain
state. From tranquil bird watching to exciting whitewater. If you like
the outdoors then WV is for you. Being a native to these parts and
knowing the area like we do gives us a unique chance to share our knowledge
with our pottery guests. We have both worked in the tourism and
rafting industry for many years and know all the best spots. If you
would like to paddle on the water or fish in the creeks for the big one
just drop us a line any river any time.
